The Story Behind CulturalDiaries
CulturalDiaries was founded by Ajay Raj Tiwari — a cultural enthusiast and avid researcher from India who has spent years exploring the festivals, food traditions, and histories that make every culture on Earth unique. After years of reading about the world’s extraordinary cultural diversity and finding that most English-language coverage was either too shallow or too academic, Ajay decided to build something different: a platform that brings genuine depth, curiosity, and respect to the world’s most fascinating cultural stories.
“I started CulturalDiaries because I believe that understanding other cultures is the single most important thing any of us can do in the 21st century,” Ajay explains. “We live in a world of extraordinary diversity — tens of thousands of festivals, hundreds of culinary traditions, dozens of writing systems, and millennia of accumulated wisdom about how to live together as a community. Most of that knowledge never reaches people who would value it deeply. CulturalDiaries exists to change that.”

Ajay Raj Tiwari is the founder, lead researcher, and editor-in-chief of CulturalDiaries. With a background in humanities and a lifelong passion for world cultures, Ajay has dedicated years to understanding the festivals, food traditions, histories, and belief systems that define civilisations across six continents. He is based in India and brings a distinctly South Asian perspective to global cultural coverage — grounding the site’s approach in the diversity and complexity that characterises the world’s most culturally rich region.
His areas of deep focus include: festival traditions of Asia and Europe, the global history of food and spice trade, indigenous cultures and their contemporary survival, and the architectural legacy of the world’s great civilisations. He can be reached at culturaldiarie@gmail.com.
